Considerations to Make Choosing Your First Stroller

Choosing your first stroller can be a daunting task, even for experienced parents it can be a tricky encounter. This is largely due to the functionality differences of the strollers and travel systems on sale at the shops today. There are a few questions that will need to be answered before going ahead to buy your first stroller. Size is important and it's a common concern that it has to be able to perform the normal daily manoeuvres. There are many products on the market which are bulky so finding the perfect size, taken into consideration it's collapsible size is also very important. Finding the right colour scheme is also on the checklist as you wouldn't want your new born boy to be travelling around in a pink pushchair! A consideration worth making is if you are buying pre-birth whether or not to look at neutral colours or opt for design to match the sex of your baby. There are many colour and design choices across all the manufacturers so you will no doubt have a great choice.

Lots of parents these days are on a budget but this shouldn't be a problem when shopping for a stroller because lots of manufacturers offer amazing value for money whilst not compromising on quality. Take Obaby for example, they manufacture high quality baby products that are comparable with the most premium baby brands and their products are exceptionally good value for money. This is reflected across all of the areas from changing bags to their travel systems.

Some of the more serious considerations to make revolve around safety. A few simply observations should be made here such as does it conform to BS 7409, this is a requirement of all prams and pushchairs. If you're in the position where you can test the brakes then this is well worth checking as some pushchairs have better brakes than others. The safety harness is also another point of inspection. Does it have a 5 point harness or at least one which that goes over the baby's shoulders to prevent tipping? One of the most common causes of tipping is overloading by hanging shopping from the handles. Check for stability and for any baskets that it may have as hanging shopping on the handles can be dangerous.

One piece of advice worth taking on board when performing your research is to take your time, visit more than one high street baby shop, don't forget to visit your local independent shops where you're more likely to receive one to one customer service as well as the larger chains.

Once you have made your choice its well worth reading a few reviews and talking to other parents and ask their advice as well. The age we live in means there will be discussions in baby forums on the internet. These forums can be a really useful source of information and often if a certain product is problematic then there will be many people discussing this. This invaluable information will help finalise your decision.

Once you find yourself ready to buy your first stroller then price will probably be your primary concern. Being savvy at this stage can either save you money, add some accessories or gain you a free gift.

Baby Shop is an online retailer of everything from bibs to Obaby Pushchairs.
